The Beatles Tribute with No Beatles Songs
Sep. 13th, 2009 09:23 amWell, in case you've missed it, the Beatles recently re-released all of
their studio albums, stereo and mono, remastered. As a result, we're
celebrating Beatlemania here on The Legend all day. I'll be honest, I'm
not much of a Beatles fan, but you can't claim to know a little bit about
music (a very little bit, in my case) and not acknowledge with deep
respect the huge, huge influence the four lads from Liverpool had on
music.
So this week, throughout Toews on the Waves, we're going to pay our own
respectful tribute to the Beatles, but by way of putting my own spin on
things, we're not going to play a single Beatles song. So here's the
scoop. In our first hour, during our twenty-minute spotlight, we'll be
featuring songs the Beatles covered. The Beatles added their own personal
touch to many songs and made them their own, and this week on the
spotlight we'll be showcasing some of those original songs. Much of the
second hour will be taken up with a one-time feature I'm calling Douglas
Adams Through the Beatles Years. The beatles era in North America can be
defined as the years 1964 through 1970, inclusive. I'll be playing the #42
song for the year for each of those years. This is one segment where you'd
expect to hear a Beatles song or two ... but guess what, you don't (and
no, I did not know this before preparing the show). The reason I picked
the number 42 is that according to the Douglas Adams books, 42 is the
answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything.
We have our other features as well: Songs I Can't Stand, Ripley's Believe
it or Not, the Mooth Meditative Moment, and a whole lot more. Whatever
your musical tastes, we'll try to cater to them this week on Toews on the
Waves, so please join me.
