A Double Dose of Uncle Brucie on Mushroom FM

What's [better, worse, take your pick] than one show by Bruce Toews in a weekend? Try two. Because that's what you'll be getting this weekend on Mushroom FM.

On Saturday, it's time for the usual unusualness, as we present Toews on the Waves. This week, we'll be looking at buildings and parts of buildings. Houses, barns, garages, doors, rooms, and more will be featured. It's the perfect opportunity for you, the listeners, to get creative and give me your ideas. So please do that, either before or during the show. Requests for anything else are also welcome on this show, since I won't be holding strictly to the theme.

Then on Sunday, I'll be filling in for Erin Edgar, and doing what amounts to a Toews on the Waves extra. In The Melting Waves, every song and routine will in some way be about animals. This is a theme I'll be sticking with during the show, so if you have any requests for songs and routines about animals of any description, please don't hesitate to bring them forward.

Toews on the Waves airs Saturday at 2:00 PM Eastern, that's 7:00 PM in the UK. The Melting Waves wil air Sunday at 7:00 PM Eastern, which is midnight in the UK. point to Ponder: Poverty and Crime

For years, the so-called experts and authorities have been telling us that unemployment breeds poverty, poverty breeds crime. This pronouncement suggests to us that if you raise the wealth level of the poor, you will (it is implied) solve the prison problem.

I come from a group whose unemployment rate is roughly 80%, I'm told, i.e. blind people. At least in the mid-1990's, simply being blind in this province did not qualify one for disability-based social assistance.

So we have here a group of people with, by any standards, a high unemployment rate, in a province and country which does very little financially to support its disabled population. So why are the prisons not bulging to the bursting point with blind people?
