Have We Lost a Sense of What Matters?
Feb. 4th, 2013 03:37 pmLast year, the Canadian Minto struck its last penny. As of today, pennies are no longer distributed.
For a good part of the morning (I use the word good in the quantitative, not the qualitative sense), the big discussion on our local radio station revolved around a woman who was upset because of a restaurant bill. I can't remember the dollar amount, but her bill was something like $7.92. The server of the restaurant rounded up to $7.59, and this woman caused a scene and contacted the radio station because they didn't round down to $7.90. She said it wasn't the three cents, it was the principle. What kind of an unimportant principle is this to make a big deal over? If we as Western society have gotten to the point where we fight a battle on principle over three lousy cents, then we as a society need to get kicked in our collective butt. It's just ridiculous, in my opinion. I asked the show host for her e-mail address and offered to Paypal her the three cents. I was totally disgusted.
