A Poem of Deep and Honest Longing

If I could have my pillow,
And my bed and blanket too,
To sleep the week away
Is just the thing I'd like to do.
Wakefulness is overrated,
That is what I think,
Into a deep and blissful slumber
I would like to sink.

People say that eating's great,
Well, I don't know 'bout you,
But I would rather take a nap
Than eat a steak or stew.

My eyes would close, and I'd be gone,
To dreamland I'd be whisked,
Surely I'm not that important,
I'm sure I'd not be missed.

I'm living now on memories
Of naps from times gone by,
When eleven bells ring, and sleep is king,
With contentment I wil sigh.
