Question of the Day

Am I the only one who doesn't place the coming of the seventh Harry Potter book on a level with the second coming of Christ? (If you don't believe in the second coming of Christ, answer the spirit of the question if not the literal question itself.)

I've never read an HP book, nor have I seen any of the films (which is strange, because I like that genre of story) but I will admit to being caught up in the frenzy that is underway...I think it's great that people are coming together over something and showcasing genuine excitement. I've never seen hype over a book like this before. I wish I were younger and a full part of it.

Maybe it's a sign of age, but I am far less likely to read a huge fantisy series as it is being written now than I would have been ten years ago.
I started potter, and made it to four. After the fourth book, I decided to wait until the series was done before reading it.
Well, the series is done, but I'm happy to wait for the national library service to finish recording it before I try to get it. Even then, if I can't download it on-line (something I hope I can do as nls mentioned at the acb convention taht the on-line download program will soon be opening up to people with qualified players,) I'll wait for the rush on cassettes to end.
I guess I got somewhat turned off of huge fantisy series after "The Wheel of time," and "A song of Ice and Fire," both fantastic series of which I have read portions, have taken forever to complete.

I think someday I'll get around to reading Potter. I've nothing against it. But by and large I'm a science fiction purist, though i'll admit I'm not sure in which category to put Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

I've read the whole Potter series, though never on time. I'm not excited at all about book7's release. Sure I'll get it, sure I'll read it, but I'm not foaming at the mouth, nor will I stay up till midnight to hit the bookstores. With that said however, there is something very magical about Harry, particularly in the early books, that does draw one in and captivate one's imagination . The thing that irritates me about the series now is that the evil seems to be worsening in the main villain as the books move forward, which makes it more disturbing to read and somewhat annoying because no matter what Harry and gang do, the evil never goes away and Harry especially is hurt in many ways, more than the evil villain is.

I've read up to book 5. I am being harrassed by imafarmgirl in a playful way because I have not read book 6. But it is not for lack of loving HP. It is that there are so many books to read and there is something called my mood that keeps me reading different genres. Someone mentioned Song of Ice and Fire, which I still need to finish reading and loved!

You are absolutely not the only person who feels this way! I was actually going to do an entry about that very thing. Don't get me wrong, I like the books well enough, but it's a book, not some major religious event worthy of high praise.

If we had the dough, we would have pre-ordered it, but unfortunately, we'll just ahve to wait until we can afford the book. This is OK, because the Ginger_Biscuit has already reread book 6 and I'm about to start after I read a few of L. Frank Baum's original Oz books, which are very short talking books. We did, however, go see the latest movie just a few days after it was released, just to avoid any major crowds, plus the weather was way too hot to go anywhere and feel comfy. Now perhaps if I get hold of an audio download I'll try and get it as soon as I can, but for the time being, I'll wait. Heck, I downloaded the latest Sword of Truth book in that series and still haven't read it yet.
