There's a lot I'm agreeing with in this psychology book, but also a lot I'm disagreeing with. So today's poll will be somewhat rooted in psychology.

I didn't think your type of social worker existed. Good for you. I was spanked as a child when I needed it, my parents genuinely did so in love, and I'm a better person for it.

the official stance is that corporal punishment must not be "unduly severe" and can only cause "transitory pain".

When my Mom spanked me, she never left marks and i never went to bed in pain. I'm sure I screamed like I was being murdered.

Yes, I agree with that official stance, and so did my parents. I don't recall any spanking where the pain lasted beyond the time of the spanking itself, certainly never leaving marks of any kind.

sometimes the problem is that parents spank when they are too angry.

This may sound crazy, but my dad told me he always made sure to smile when he spanked me. His philosophy was how can you be angry at someone you're smiling at. It worked in his case, that's all I'll say.

I checked other on this one, because I think the worst punishment a person could do is being forced to eat a chicken sandwich doused in katchup.
