Well, others are doing this, so why don't I? I promise to answer any and all questions.

Everyone has things they blog about. Everyone has things they don't blog about. Challenge
me out of my comfort zone by telling me something I don't blog
about, but you'd like to hear about, and I'll write a post about it. Ask for anything:
latest movie watched, last book read, political leanings, thoughts
on yaoi, favorite type of underwear, graphic techniques, etc. Repost in your own
journal so that we can all learn more about each other.

OK, I wanna hear about the first time you read Hitchhiker's guide. Because I'm always so interested in how other people feel about books I love.

The first time I heard about it was when a local radio station played the radio series, I guess it would have been 1981, so I was still a kid. It was late in the evening and I was sleepy, so I went to bed early with the radio on. I heard this Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy thing, and almost immediately heard some comments about God which I found, and find, offensive. So I turned it off then and there.

About a year later, I got a bunch of talking books from CNIB. One of them was The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I remember the feel of the tape, the way it was labeled, and so on. It was a rerecording of Dennis Bateman's reading of the book, this was back when NLS was still selling books to us. I started it that evening, and went to sleep. The next day we had a series of family gatherings.I brought along my tape recorder and some headphones, and by the time the day was done, had read through the book, and I was hooked. The reality is that I never did send that tape back. I'm guessing CNIB must've written it off by now.

So do you still have the tape? Is there a better narrator out there for the series? I read it the first time in audio, from NLS. I was in college. I loved all of the books and read them like a starving person.

Well, there are worse reading of Hitchiker's. I actually really like Bateman's reading of it.The worst reading of it is the guy from NLS who reads The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. My favorite reading is Douglas Adams himself reading it. I have his readings of all of the books, and if you'd be able to benefit from that, would be glad to get those to you. I also have the RNIB versions of the Douglas Adams books, and the RFB&D version, which isn't much better than the Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Finally, I have the comercial CD's of Stephen Fry reading the first book and MArtin Freeman reading the others. Not bad.
